The Records Management Program provides services to all offices of the University by helping them efficiently manage their University records. It helps departments ensure that their records are retrievable, reliable, secure, and trustworthy. It is guided by the principle that managed records are an asset and unmanaged records are a liability.
The Records Management Program is happy to visit with any department at the University to help it determine how long to keep records and what to ultimately do with records. The Program is also happy to give advice on any issue about storing, destroying, or managing records. The Records Management Program deals with both electronic and paper records.
The Records Management Program works with various departments to establish Records Retention Schedules that articulate the policies on the retention and disposition of University Records.

The University Records Policy, approved February 22, 2007, defines the authority and responsibility of the Digital Collections and Archives and the Records Management Program. The policy is supported by the Guidelines for Managing Univerity Records
The Records Management Program is involved in an electronic records research project funded by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (Grant number: 2004-083). The Digital Collections and Archives is undertaking Fedora and the Preservation of University Electronic Records in conjuction with the Manuscripts and Archives of Yale University.
