TDR: Tufts Digital Repository

Welcome

Welcome to the Tufts University trusted digital repository program. The TDR is developed and administered by Academic Technology and Digital Collections and Archives to support teaching and research at Tufts University.

This web site describes the TDR program, presents information about the services this program provides the Tufts University community and program collaborators, and provides and introduction to the purpose, use, and architecture of the Tufts digital repository.

Mission

The Tufts Digital Repository provides services for the preservation of and access to digital assets created in support of Tufts' teaching and research mission.

History and Mangement

The Tufts Digital Repository is a centrally-managed repository system for digital content of enduring value created at Tufts and/or by members of the Tufts community, its affiliates, and allied organizations. The repository architecture is built around Fedora (Flexible Extensible Digital Object Repository Architecture), an open-source digital repository management system. Repository services include long-term and archival storage. General public access to objects in the repository is provided through the Tufts Digital Library (TDL) application. The repository also provides a programming interface that facilitates the creation of additional applications. Such applications might provide specialized portals or tools for access and delivery of repository content.

The TDR is managed by Digital Collections and Archives with support from Academic Technology.

Since 2003, Digital Collections and Archives and Academic Technology have collaborated on the implementation of a repository system based on the Fedora architecture. This repository is the foundation for the Tufts Digital Library and is also intended to serve as an institutional repository serving the needs of all of Tufts University's constituent schools and divisions.

Collecting policies and criteria for deposit are set by the DCA. Management of the repository system's software, hardware, applications, and the direction of future development is shared between the DCA and Academic Technology.
