Documentary film maker Chelsea Kearin recently visited the Digital Collections and Archives for images to include in her film Jumbo in a Jar for the WGBH Lab. Also featured in the film is Rocky Carzo, Sports Director Emeritus and one of the DCA's favorite frequent researchers.

While the Athletics Department houses the jar of Jumbo's ashes, the DCA has Jumbo's tail and other remnants of the elephant, including some hairs. This is a great example of the different between active and inactive records. The tail et al are no longer actively used by the Athletics Department, and therefore they have been transferred to the custody of the DCA. The ashes, on the other hand, are actively used by the Athletics Department, and therefore they are still held in the department itself. The "inactive records" are available for viewing during DCA's hours of operation, Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm.
